A Historic Route with a Legendary Connection

The trail has a special history. It follows a path once used by Tenzing Norgay, the legendary mountaineer who, along with Edmund Hillary, became the first to climb Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. The route was part of his training decades ago.

In 2024, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) officially introduced it as a day hike to celebrate the 71st anniversary of that achievement.

Starting Point – Chowrasta, Darjeeling

The trek begins at Chowrasta, the heart of Darjeeling town, also known as the Mall. This open square is a lively meeting place for locals and tourists, surrounded by cafés, shops, and views of the rolling hills. From here, you leave the bustle of town and enter quieter paths.
