Hotels in Darjeeling & Sikkim area
Which you can afford

Dear readers, below I have answered questions about which hotels are best for your target price range. However this thread in the forum has been running for a long time and so consider the dates while making a judgement. Rates discussed a year ago or earlier would have certainly gone up. So make the rate adjustments accordingly.

Rahul Dixit (December 2012)
Dear Sir, I chanced upon your forum only today and feel assured about getting useful information from you. Along with my wife(31yrs), a son (23months)& parents-in-law(aged 62 & 60yrs) I will visit Darjeeling from 17-19 Dec 2012. Please suggest some comfortable hotels with the room tariff between Rs 1500 to 2500 per room keeping in mind the age of the in-laws as they can't climb or walk more on uphill, room & water heating facility, good breakfast & food and nice view.

An acquaintance has suggested Hotel Pineridge in Darjeeling during my visit there during 17-19 Dec 2012. I would be grateful to you if you can provide your opinion on the following aspects, (i) Location, as I have a 23 month old son and in-laws having 62 & 60 yrs age, (ii) Room heating and hot water amenities, and (iii) quality of service and tariff. It would be helpful if you reply over email. Sincerely,

Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com), December 2012
Rahul, You can consider Villa Everest and Swiss Hotel, both on Gandhi Road. Villa Everest would be nearer to the Mall. If you want to stay right on the Mall, then Sunflower can also be a decent option. You will get links to the detailed reviews of these hotels and their contacts in my sections above.

Pineridge used to be a great heritage hotel once. The location is right at the entrance to the mall on Nehru Road. There can't be a better location. But over the years, the maintenance has gone down and now several of the rooms and corridors are worn out, some parts are even closed. I won't stay there myself with my family any longer unless it is thoroughly revamped. You can find link to my detailed review of the hotel in the sections above. You will understand why a four star property is available at such an attractive price. Regards,

Dear Sir, Your site is fantastic. Thanks...I am still going through it..My family and my friend's family are planning to visit Darjeeling and Gangtok during week of April 20, 2013. I need recommendation for good and decent hotels, not more than Rs. 3,000 per day. The hotel should have clean rooms, toilets, and have good breakfast, dinner (price for food can be separate), hot water for bath. I am not sure about climate in 2nd half of April. If room heater is required, we will need that also. Will there be any cottage like facility where two families can stay - costing not more than Rs 6000 per day? Can you please let me know your recommendation?

Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com), February 2013
Hello, There aren't many cottage accommodations in Darjeeling. One of them is in Rhododendron Dell, but that's quite far away from the main town and isolated. Another one in Swiss Hotel on Gandhi Road which has semi-attached cottages by the lawn side. Others would be in Tea Estates which too are off the town. You can consider Sinclairs or Fortune Nirvana as options within your budget (no cottages though). Otherwise check out '2 Star Hotels' menu option from my site for some of the nice cheaper hotels. You won't require room heaters around that time. Justin case you do, the hotels will provide that. Hotels of 3-star category and above won't usually charge extra for room heaters.

Dear Sir, Went through your post which is quite informative and looks honest. Thereby I would request your help to suggest accommodation for us. we are a family 2 + 1 4yr old kid, 1 young couple, our parents, totally 7. We would like a decent accommodation for 7000 to 8000 per night for a family accommodation with multiple rooms. Can we get a decent accommodation in this budget. Our main criteria is view & scenery from rooms, cleanliness, style & decoration, breakfast. kids activity could be added attraction. Please suggest. Thanks for your time.

Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) August 2013
Are you looking for some guest house accommodations? Then you can try either Classic Guest House (already reviewed in my website, see under hotels guide menu option). You can take up 3 rooms and it should come to your budget. Both guest houses are good and close to the Mall. You won't get an independent house with 3-4 rooms and with full service.

First of all I would like to thank you for your wonderful, detailed, informative website on travel writing. I seek your suggestion for an objective recommendation of hotels as I want to carry a couple of senior citizens with me-- both being 70 yrs plus! I am looking for a comfortable place to stay within a reasonable budget (Not above Rs 3000/) that would be centrally located so that the elderly people can enjoy most tourist places /sightseeing close by without too much walking on the steep terrain! Also grand views from the room preferable, if possible! Please kindly suggest some hotels for me not only in Darjeeling but in the hill stations close by as well like Gangtok, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, Siliguri, if that is possible and not inconvenient for you! Thanks well in advance! Regards

Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) November 2013
  • Darjeeling: WBTDC Tourist Lodge (on Mall road, great views), Hotel Shangrila (few steps from the Mall on Nehru Road, good rooms with views)
  • Gangtok: Hotel Sonam Delek (10 minutes from MG Marg, all rooms with great views and balcony)
  • Kalimpong: Hotel Garden Reach (Close to the Market area, good rooms, some having nice views)
  • Kurseong: WBTDC Tourist Lodge, most rooms have great views. Some have balconies (the right wing)
  • Mirik: Mirik Tourist Lodge (some rooms have great views of the lake), Hotel Jagjeet (not much views, but one of the best hotels, recently renovated)
  • Siliguri: Sinclairs, Mainak Tourist Lodge

Hi Raj, Hope you are doing well. I really appreciate your work. I have been continuously going through your site from past 4 days. I want to book a single (Double Bed) room for 3 nights for my parents as a surprise trip for their 25th wedding anniversary i.e 28/11/2014 to 1/12/2014. My budget is max 2000 per night. I want a pretty room with great view with all necessary amenities and close to main markets and food restaurants. I am really confused. Since time is less, I want to do booking asap. Please help me and guide me with best options. Please reply as I am unable to find one. Thanks

You can consider Golden Heights Enclave. They offer good discount with Darjeeling Tourism Card, and it can come close to your budget.

Sir you are doing great work, 100% marks to you. most of the info is available on your site with your comments. I am planning to visit Darjeeling for 10days. Was searching for some good place to stay. Budget is almost 1500 per day in month of March or April. I read your comments it's not peak time for tourism. I want a room well in all respect but one extra thing I want is that room/hotel should be in a calm place. Does not matter if it is 20-30 min walking distance. Kindly suggest so that i can book rum in advance

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) September 2014
April is in high season while March is not. You can look into Hotel Broadway Annex (good discounts on room rate, food, tours etc if you use Darjeeling Tourism Card) or Highlanders Inn.

Hi Raj, Thanks for all the info on the web site. My query is I want to visit with my wife and daughters ( 5 years and 8 years) in the month of Oct. I would like to stay a little longer 5-6 days and need a good internet connection as well so that I can work also. My budget is 3000-4000 Rs per day and would prefer to stay near mall with nice view. Please suggest. Also can we take train from JalPaiguri to Darjeeling, I don't see that in irctc.co.in for online booking. Thanks in advance for the help on this.

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) September 2014
Hi, You can consider Hotel Shangri-la ... 4 very well appointed and large rooms with good views .... but usually in high demand. It's a small but nice hotel. Free wi-fi in rooms. Another option is their sister hotel Shangrila Regency ... free wi-fi in the roof top lounge (the lounge is quite attractive and has great views). You get 10% discount on Darjeeling tourism card on room rate in both hotels (if you book using the card), and also in their restaurant (Shangrila Restaurant) for food and bar items. You may also go through the menu option '2 Star Hotels' in my site and explore other hotels. Note that the entire Mall now has free wi-fi access.

Hello Raj, We are planning a trip to Darjeeling on Feb 17th and stay for 2 days. Please advise a good budget hotel (up to Rs 1500) which serves Vegetarian food. Thanks and Regards,

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) January 2015
You may consider Lunar Hotel (negotiate the rates, Feb is in low season). Their vegetarian restaurant arguably serves best vegetarian food in Darjeeling.

    Raj Agarwal (February 2015)
Hello, this is Raj Agarwal from Delhi. I will be visiting Darjeeling in last 2 weeks of Feb 2015 (21st feb-28th feb). As I will be visiting for the first time along with my wife and 2 daughters, I would require your advise regarding the stay in Darjeeling for 8 days. I need a good and cheap hotel within Rs 1000 per day with hot water facility and Indian vegetarian food. Please do help me as you are the only person who can provide me true guidance regarding the place. Please do reply. Thank You.

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) February 2015
Hi, your budget is too low to find a hotel which is both good and that cheap. You can consider Hotel Mount Meridian on Robertson Road run by Agarwals, they have an in-house vegetarian restaurant. The hotel and the food at the restaurant are average. Being in low season, you can negotiate the room rates. Another option (better in my mind) is Alice Villa further up on the same road (you will find review of this hotel in my site). As a hotel this is a much better hotel. However their in-house dining room serves both veg and non-veg food. Both hotels are within easy walking distance to the Mall, Alice Villa being closer. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, so you need not rely only on hotel food. But it can be very cold at nights in Feb and walking down even few steps may be painful in that chill. Good luck!

    Syed (March 2015)
Hi Raj, I read the reviews on the website and how you are helping tourist is really appreciated. I am planning trip with my family in May. Need to know best hotels near Mall/Chowrasta with 1500 budget per night. I have some below options but not sure how fare it is from Mall because I have kids who cannot walk for long. If you any other options apart from below hotels please suggest.

1.DREAMS LAND HOTEL, 2.PAHARI SOUL, 3.PINE RIDGE, 4.THE SEVEN SEAS. Thanks

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) March 2015
Hi, Pahari Soul is far away although nice. You can consider Seven Seas. Other options in that budget are Hotel Revolver and Alice Villa.

    Piu Das (June 2015)
Dear Mr. Raj, I am planning to visit Darjeeling late November or early December this year with family of four. I need a hotel of about rs.1000-1500 budget. is that a peak season? can i get a comfortable stay with basic requirements at this rate? I was going through your list and was thinking may be revolver would be a good choice. can I get a room at this budget there? this website is a great help for everyone wanting to visit Darjeeling or nearby. Thanks for doing this for us.

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) June 2015
November end is not a peak season.
Here are some nice choice of hotels in your range (Rs. 1000 to 1,500 per night):

    1) Hotel Revolver - take the room named John for great views of Kanchenjunga

    2) Highlander's Inn on Mall road - great views from rooms

    3) Alice Villa - No views, but nice low budget hotel. Chowrasta Mall is only 3 minutes walk.

    4) Annex building rooms of Darjeeling Tourist Lodge - No views from rooms (except one or two but through trees). Great views from lawn.

Hello Raj, first thanks for ur information regarding darjeeling tour, I found it very usefull. I am medical student and planning to visit Darjeeling during this dusheera vacation. First is dusheera vacation suitable for tour, means points remain open or get closed? Next being a student I like to know budget hotel (1000-1500 rs), with nature beauty, peace and not very crowded, from where mountains are visible. And also should be close to market like mall road and chowrasta, because I will come with my wife and son ( 3 yr old). Waiting for your response.

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) July 2015
Dussera is a peak time and all hotels get full months in advance. Most attractions remain open. For your requirement, you can try Hotel Revolver (on Gandhi road, John's room for the views, Mall is 10-12 minutes leisure walk), or Highlander's Inn (on Mall road, all rooms offer great views, Mall is about 5-6 minutes walk, presently going through some renovations and closed).

    Subhra Roy (July 2015)
Hi Raj, Me with my wife and 3 family members are going to Darjeeling this October-15. We are arriving at Darjeeling on 1st Oct until 4th Oct. Our train back to kolkata is on 4th Oct night. So we are staying 3 nights at Darjeeling. We are looking for a budget accommodation for 5 people for three nights at maximum 2 thousand per
night. We can stay together, we may not need different rooms. We want to stay nearby Chowrasta, The Mall. Also where I can get information about the sight seeing packages. Thanks & Regards,

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) July 2015
Family rooms are available at Broadway Hotel ... you can check with them, but they would be much more than Rs. 2K (October is a peak season, rates will be high).

    Sudip Sarkar (January 2016)
Hi Raj, Thanks for your fabulous information. I would like to visit Darjeeling with my family on Last week of March,16. I've two little daughter of 6 yrs & 4 yrs. Would you please suggest me the best boarding option near Heart of the city/the Mall. I can spend around Rs. 1000/day for my lodging.

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) January 2016
You can consider Annexe room of Darjeeling Tourist Lodge on Mall road. It won't be that cheap though, but close. You can book online through WBTDCL website or through their office at BBD Bag in Kolkata.

    Jayanta Ganguli (February 2016)
Hello Sir, We are planning to visit Darjeeling in last week of May 2016. This is the first time we are visiting there. Seeking your help in choosing the right stay as I am going with my parents aged 69 & 61 along with my wife and 4 years old kid. I don't have any problem staying together if we get any hotel offering that as budget is a constraint here. This website is very informative and seeking your valuable guidance. Thank you so much.

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) February 2016
Not sure what your budget actually is. You can look into 4 bedded family room in the Annex Building of WB Tourist Lodge. You can book online through WBTDC website.

    Shreya Adhatrao (October 2016)
Raj let me thank you for all the vast information you have shared on web which makes us visit Darjeeling virtually. I am planning to visit Darjeeling on 12th Nov,2016 with my friend, we are looking for a low budget hotel 800-1000/- twin sharing basis . A Hygienic , decent room with Hot water facility is my requirement. Please suggest the location for hotel so that most of the tourist places are comparatively closer. Regards

    Raj (darjeeling-tourism.com) October 2016
You won't get a very decent hotel meeting all your requirements at that low budget. Most of November is a high season. You can look into Alice Villa, Revolver etc, but they will still be higher than your budget. Otherwise you can consider a holiday home run by bank's staff welfare association (which can be within your budget, but they have limited accommodations). All such information are available on my website. Try to stay near the town center (i.e. near Mall area or Planter's Club).
